Yeah, but that is in Oxford…

One reaction to Ted’s talk, from a couple of weeks ago, was to mention that the idea of a DIY Street is easier to realise in Oxford than Turnpike Lane because, well, Oxford is Oxford. However, it is worth menting that one of the most successful neighbourhood, sustainable transport, and public space project has taken place in Bogota, Colombia. Former Mayor Enrique Penalosa was responsible for bringing about enormous change to the city; both in terms of infrastruture, but also – and most importantly – in residents attitudes. He is an inspiring individual and it is fifteen minutes well spent.
